Can Flowers Relieve Your Stress?

by Doc Orman, M.D.

Flowers And Stress ReliefDon’t you just love pretty, colorful flowers?  I certainly do, but do you typically associate flowers with reducing stress?

Sure, it’s fun to be given flowers as a gift.  And it can be even more fun to touch them, smell them, or put them in a vase to enjoy for as long as they last.  It also can be fun—and momentarily stress relieving—to simply lie down in a field of grass with flowers all around you.

But can these ways of benefiting from flowers provide you with long-term stress relief? I don’t think so.  But there is another way that can.

Images + Great Insights = Wisdom

I’ve recently become a fan of Pinterest, and I’ve even set up my own account ( with several boards that may be of interest to you.  Anyhow, in browsing some of the Pinterest boards that others have created, I was amazed at how much good information, and juicy pearls of wisdom, were being communicated on a site that’s supposed to be just a scrapbook-type collection of random images.

Some of these little gems of wisdom (about life, about happiness, about relationships, etc.) are built right into the images themselves.  Others can be obtained when you click on the image, after it captures you interest, and then you are taken to the web page where the image originated.  While you are there, you can read whatever content was associated with the original image on that page.

Wow!  What a great idea.  What if somebody linked a bunch of pretty pictures with a wealth of useful knowledge about a particular area of life, and then offered the combination through Pinterest for everyone to benefit from and share with others in their lives.

Flowers + Stress Insights = Stress Relief

So I got the idea, what if I combined some of my unique insights about stress with a series of pretty, colorful images of flowers to pique people’s interest?  Wouldn’t this be cool?

Well, I don’t really know, but I’m going to give it a try.

So for the next few weeks, you’ll notice that each of my new blog posts will include a flower image that I will then post on one of my boards on Pinterest. This way, anyone who visits my Pinterest account and clicks on the flower image can read the full blog post that is associated with it.  And if they like the blog post, they can simply “repin” the image to one of their own Pinterest boards and thereby share the stress relief information they found helpful with all of their followers.

To kick this process off, I’m going to take two of my earlier blog posts and revisit them this week, with newly minted flower images and additional updated commentary.
