How Deal With Anger (Part 1)

by Doc Orman, M.D.

How To Deal With Anger Part 1This week, I want to focus on one common type of stress that affects all of us from time to time.  This is the emotion of ANGER.

Everyone gets angry at certain times in their lives.  Some get angry much more frequently than others, while some people are relatively unflappable, getting angry only when things become extreme.

Where Do You Fall On The Anger Spectrum?

Where do you fall on the full spectrum of getting angry:

  • Do you become angry very easily?
  • Do you tend to get violent or abusive when you are angry?
  • Have you ever hurt or lashed out at a loved one when angry, only to regret your outburst later?
  • Do you have trouble letting go of your anger?
  • Do you find it hard to forgive people who have wronged you?
  • Or, do you only rarely become angry and then easily get over it very quickly?

Wherever you fall, in general, on the anger spectrum, this emotion can always become a major source of stress for you in the future.  There may be times you can’t predict right now, where anger may rear its ugly head and become a challenge for you.

Do You Control Your Anger…Or Does Anger Control You?

Whether you frequently or infrequently experience the emotion of anger, I have three important questions for you:

  1. When you do become angry, does your anger control you, or do you know how to take control of your anger?
  2. When you do become angry, do you know how to instantly determine the main causes of your upset, including the hidden causes that reside totally within you?
  3. When you become angry, and you would like to be free of this emotional turmoil, do you know how to make your feelings of anger quickly disappear, without having to use alcohol, drugs, relaxation exercises, or other time-consuming stress management techniques?

Congratulations To You!

If you know how to do all three of these things…congrats to you.  You are probably very knowledgeable about human emotions in general and about the psychology of specific human emotions in particular.  You also probably don’t have much difficulty controlling other negative emotions such as fear, worry, guilt, frustration, and sadness.

If, however, you are like most people I know, or like most of the patients I treated in my medical practice or worked with in my stress relief seminars, you probably can’t answer “yes” to each of the three key questions above.

In that case, I encourage you to pay very close attention to all three of my blog posts this week.

What You Will Learn About Anger This Week

In my next post, two days from now, I am going to introduce you to a powerful new way of thinking about anger that will most likely change the way you look at it, and understand it, forever!

I’m going to show you how to build an index card for the emotion of anger that will enable you to accurately pinpoint the hidden, internal causes of your anger, for the rest of your life!

Now, if you’ve been following my stress relief work for very long, or if you’ve already taken advantage of my free introductory stress mastery trainings or e-books, you may have already been introduced to this very advanced form of emotional intelligence.

However, if you haven’t yet experienced the awesome power of this approach, you are in for a special treat this week.

So, be sure to return to this blog on Wednesday, October 3rd, 2012, when I will share some very important insights about the emotion of anger with you.
