In addition to having a winning mindset for defeating stress and some basic core principles to guide you, you will also need some associated core strategies in order to actually become successful. These core strategies should be consistent with your core principles and should empower you to deal with stress much more effectively than ever before.

Core Strategies For Success

Once again, if you’ve been following this blog during the past two years, you’ve already been exposed to a good number of these powerful core strategies.

Here are some of the most important ones:

  • Stop trying to deal with “stress” and focus on your specific problems instead—This strategy is a natural consequence of recognizing that stress is just a word. Don’t get caught up in the popular mindset that “stress” is something you can actually deal with. It is not. The only thing you can truly deal with are the specific problems that are giving you difficulty.
  • Stop trying to manage just the symptoms of “stress” and deal with the underlying causes of your problems—Despite its widespread popularity, stress management is a very poor strategy for winning against stress. If you want to become a winner, you are eventually going to have to deal with the underlying causes of your stressful problems in life and focusing on managing just their symptoms alone is never going to get you there.
  • Learn how to recognize common internal causes—One you understand that your goal is to focus on the specific stressful problems you are having with the aim of resolving them by first identifying and then dealing with their underlying causes, it will immediately become apparent that you haven’t been trained to recognize the true underlying causes of your stress. Your tendency will be to focus on external causes, but this is not the way to win the game. If you want to become a winner, you’ll want to learn how to recognize internal causes (thought patterns and behavior patterns within yourself) that are also playing a role. If you want to know the secret to winning the game called stress…this is the key.
  • Learn how to deal with internal causes—Once you become good at recognizing internal causes, the next and very important step is to learn how to neutralize or overcome these internal factors. Here again, you’ll need some help to learn how to do this, but you will be amazed how easy this becomes, once you have all the relevant causes—both external and internal—on the table in front of you.

For the final installment of this six-part series, we’ll look at one more key element that is crucial for success—leadership and coaching.
