Stress Mastery: 30 Years Later…And She Still Likes Me!

by Doc Orman, M.D.

mortandchristina30thThirty years ago today, my wife and I got married!  It was a glorious day of sun, fun, and celebration with family and friends.

I was waiting until today to share my secret for marital success with the world, just to make sure my theory was adequately tested out.

Here’s the secret in a nutshell:

Marry a great woman…and then get the hell out of her way!   Don’t be foolish enough to think you know more about how to run a relationship than she does.  Simply admit you’re a man and this means you haven’t got a clue.

So thank you dear for always putting up with me and for always seeing past my flaws.  I made this little video for you to celebrate our past three decades together.

Hope you enjoy it.

Congratulations to both of you! That is a huge accomplishment. May the next 30 years be even better!

P.S. I enjoyed your video – clearly, it was a labor of love.

Dearest, I finally got to hear/see the whole video. Now how do I save it so I can see it all the time? to everyone reading this post – marriage can be wonderful even when it does not meet your original expectations. Mort and I support each other in doing what makes us happy. He plays as much golf as he wants (and has time for). I go to Garden Club meetings, sustainability meetings and volunteer work, travel to teach and play with friends or sightseeing or be at conferences.

There is no one right way to have a successful marriage. They all look different. Mort is the one who remembers our anniversary and how many years we have been married. He is my rock, my support, my stability so I can grow spiritually, volunteer, teach and just plain relax!

Many, many things could have torn us apart and caused lots and lots of ongoing stress in both our lives. Because of Mort understanding the hidden causes of his stress (and me being fairly good at it) no issue escalated, all issues eventually got resolved or faded away.

Congratulations on your shared happiness. It is really rare to find a partner and friend to be your spouse. It speaks well of your beautiful characters that you’ve done it. I like what Doc says, “marry a good woman and get the hell out of the way”. Best Wishes
